Fi-Shock FW-00018D 250-Feet 17 Gauge Spool Aluminum Wire – Works perfectly for my purposes.

A bit thick, although i think that was my fault for the wrong gauge, however, it seems a bit short, but honestly i didn’t measure out 250 feet, but the spool had a lot of space left on it to add more.

I have ducks and bought this wire to finish my electric fence. Its a strong wire cause i think deer got into the wire and the wire held up but the cheap plastic posts broke.

I got this for my girlfriend too try and see if it would work to replace the aluminum wire she uses for making some wire wrapped jewelry. While not as bright initially as the wire sold for that purpose, it polushes well and is exactly the same in other respects. Aluminum is a very soft wire for this purpose so take care to not use too much force or it will leave tool marks.

Worked perfectly with the fi-shock unit i purchased to put around my garden to keep the deer out.

We’re using this to bind an outdoor dog pen to keep it more stable, and it is working beautifully for that. I didn’t want anything too high gage because it is a portable pen and i also didn’t want to use a lot of tools to bend it. This wire kept the pen from going over in high winds this weekend after we installed it. Will update as time goes on.

I am using this wire in my garden to make climbing devices for my large plants like beans and tomatoes. Previously i just used regular steel wire, but it rusted so bad that it was weakened and ugly after just one season. This aluminum wire is just as strong, easier to work with, and much more attractive in the garden than the rusty junk i used before.

Wire does the job, keeps out the ground hogs, down to wood rats out of the garden. Easy to work with: rollout, cut, twist. I will buy more of this wire for my future garden expansion.

This wire is very soft and breaks easily. I put it around a chicken pen to keep the raccoon’s out. I watch them test the wire and repeatedly attack the same spot until they break it. I have had to double up the wire that is closest to the ground.

Great retaining strength at 17 gauge, yet at this thickness, it remains easy to bend and form by hand; and best of all, it’s aluminum—so, it won’t rust. You get 200 feet of wire vs the galvanized metal spools that provide only 100 to 150 feet—and at some point can degrade and rust around worn or kinked areas.

We originally purchased an invisible fence which arrived broken & un-usable so we tried a lower cost option and seemed more likely to work and it did. Although the fence line is visible, it has been 100% effective. Both of my dogs had become friends with the neighbor dog and we couldn’t keep them apart. They were completely demolishing an older wood fence that was in place; put 6 or 7 holes in it, dug under it, tore out an older brick walkway. They haven’t touched the fence or anything near it.

I ended up having to buy two spools of this stuff for my chicken/rabbit coop. They have a large run with no cover and the hawks and eagles were getting them. I put this up every 2 feet on the top of the coop and now they can’t get eaten by birds. I have had no problems what so ever. It is nice because it isn’t noticeable until you actually look for it so now it looks good and my animals are protected.

Used this as a temporary fence until i got a permit to build a real fence to keep the dogs in. I tried it before i let the dogs out and it produces a good amount of shock but not terrible. Dogs only touched it once and they learned.

If you are having trouble with critters eating your garden, get a battery powered electric fence, string one line about six inches from the ground, and a second about a foot above that. This keeps the crawlers such as mice, rats, raccoons, and the like out. Then put a third round at about hip height and hang foil slings filled with a dab of peanut butter about every 3-5 feet on the top wire. Deer love the smell of peanut butter, and after a sting on their nose will not be back. If mice slip under that bottom wire, you might need to set traps. 5 stars, because the squirrels aren’t gnawing holes in my wife’s many birdfeeders, any longer. The little varmints destroy feeders by endlessly gnawing at them to get more bird food. There is plenty on the ground, but they want it all. So, i installed a small electric fence charger on the deck rail, where they travel to get on their favorite bird feeder. It got their attention, because it has been off for a month, but they will still not go near that feeder. If they forget and decide to come back, i will turn it back on for a few days. No bird is large enough to touch both wires at the same time, so none of the hundreds of feeding birds that come daily have been shocked. Btw, my wife got a good laugh when i first installed it and went out to lean over the rail, like i have done for years. Yep, i jumped about 3 feet in the air and then had to laugh at myself.

Large piece of plastic missing from spool and not in package so it was shipped that way, easy to cut hand when unspooling wire. Wire though works fine for my electric fence, just not happy with sending broken spool.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • really good wire
  • The Best Electricity Conductor
  • Good for other uses too.
